Can tenants or staff use the deicing material in the bins themselves?

Edited

Quick answer: Yes — that's part of why the bins are there. Property staff and tenants can use the ice melter for between-visit emergencies, and many property managers specifically value having it accessible. Our crews typically handle ice events before they become a hazard, but having the bin on-site gives you an immediate tool if something catches you between visits.

How the bins are set up for self-service

  • Scoop or bucket provided for easy application

  • Clearly labelled so tenants or staff can identify and use it immediately

  • Stocked with Monster Green Ice Melter (approximately 84% less corrosive than rock salt)

  • Positioned near high-traffic entrances by default

When self-serve use makes sense

  • Sudden ice events between scheduled visits (flash freezes, freezing rain)

  • High-traffic entrances where touch-ups extend safety between visits

  • After-hours incidents where staff need to respond immediately

Refills and top-ups

If the bin is running low, email contact@monsterplow.ca or request a refill through the portal. 400 LB bin refill $149 + HST, 50 LB pail $24.99 + HST. Crews will also top up bins opportunistically during regular service visits when they see the level is getting low.
